De Waal Venter published his first volume of poetry, Kiem, in 1963. Since then he has published more volumes of poetry, novels, short stories, plays and children's stories. He has worked as an advertising copywriter, radio broadcaster and journalist. He offers a poetry course in four modules. The course requires participants to write poetry on which they get feedback and critique.
