Leon de Kock

Leon de Kock is the author of two published volumes of poetry, Bloodsong (1997, Snailpress) and gone to the edges (2006, Protea Book House), and translator of Marlene van Niekerk’s Triomf. A third volume of poems, Bodyhood, is due at Umuzi in 2010, and a translation/adaptation of Cas Vos's poetic rendering of the Abélard and Héloïse saga, Intieme Afwesiges (Intimately Absent), at Protea Book House, also in 2010. His translation of Etienne van Heerden’s In Stede van die Liefde is due at Penguin SA. He has published collections of SA writing, a monograph on missionary imperialism in South Africa (Civilising Barbarians, 1996), and many critical articles on various aspects of SA literary-cultural historiography and practice. He is currently Professor and Head of the School of Literature and Language Studies at Wits University in Johannesburg, where he convenes the MA in Creative Writing.
