We invite applications for two posts, for appointment as soon as possible.

The first post is in American Literary Studies in the 19th & 20th Centuries, with particular emphasis on the novel and poetry. For the second post we seek expertise in Metropolitan Literature of the 19th & 20th Centuries. It would be an advantage if candidates for these posts have experience in teaching World Literature and/or Shakespeare and the Renaissance period.

Appointment requires:
• a doctorate (or one nearing completion) in Literary Studies
• a publication record or evidence of work in progress towards publication
• experience in teaching undergraduates at university level
• the ability to supervise Master's and PhD students.

Responsibilities include:
• teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• contributing to the Department's research and publication output
• contributing to departmental administration.

The annual remuneration packages, including benefits for 2008, are as follows:
• Lecturer - R304 790
• Lecturer (entry level) - R274 311.
The level of appointment will depend on the qualifications and experience of the appointee.
